Not Singing Won’t Stop the Basement Paintings from Saying Something
Just because you’re an instrumental band doesn’t mean you don’t have something to say.
Case in point: Saskatoon’s the Basement Paintings. The group synthesizes genres and influences into an ambitious post-metal instrumental sound, but there’s a current of meaning beneath it all that they hope you pick up on.
“Every person on Earth is slowly trying to complexify their life towards something richer and [to make things] a little bit better of an expression of what they are trying to do or say,” guitarist Justin Thompson told Beatroute.
Formed in 2011, the group most recently put out an EP, Time Lapse City, in mid-2014. On their first tour, they’re getting the chance to bring it to audiences across the prairies.
The Basement Paintings are in the Club on Sunday, February 22 with Beautiful UFO and Pulsewidth. $10 at the door. All ages and licensed.
