Almost Alien

About Almost Alien

Almost Alien is a band from Regina, SK drawing influence from the 90’s pop punk scene. In their short existence as a band, they’ve already shared the stage with some big names, including GOB, Authority Zero and Kiros. Landing on this planet in 2013, they have made a place in the hearts of local punks with their songs about crude and hilarious subject matter. In 2015 they packed up their spaceship and set off toward Winnipeg, MB to record with none other than John Paul Peters at Private Ear Recording (The Kindred, Propagandhi, Comeback Kid). So keep your eyes and ears on this band for their upcoming release in spring of 2016, and watch for them in a city near you.

Corey Ruecker

About Corey Ruecker

I, Corey Ruecker, aim to please my own sonic sensibilities while sharing a message, or a story for you to interpret. I approach the studio different than the stage. I write stripped down psychedelic folk tunes on an acoustic guitar and perform this way live. In the studio I work with my friend and producer, Daniel Besuijen, to create a sonically pleasing experience to compliment the mood and feeling of these songs of mine. He has released one split album entitled Mirror, Mirror with local friend and musican Daniel Besuijen. Now they are returning to the home studio to record Corey’s first solo full release album.

The Evolving Sound of the Down Home Boys

Given time, most bands will evolve. Musical interests change or refocus. The dynamic of the group changes. Time pushes acts into new and unexpected territory.

The Down Home Boys started as a folk and bluegrass act. That’s the band you’ll find represented on their 2010 album, It’s All Down Home from Here. Since then, though, the Saskatchewan quartet have found their rock side coming out, a shift that will no doubt be showcased on their upcoming album, Poised with Pride.

The Down Home Boys play the Exchange on Saturday, January 23 with Nick Faye and the Deputies. Doors at 8:30 p.m. Show at 8 p.m. $10 at the door. All ages and licensed.

Planet Eater’s Metal Work Is Never Done

The Exchange Regina Events - Planet Eater“Sometimes you just want everyone playing in massive, shuddering unison like it’s a particularly brutal form of comfort food.” That’s what Prairie Dog had to say in their review of Planet Eater’s debut EP.

The Regina foursome has been at it for a bit, doggedly making capital-m Metal full of workmanlike craft. That’s produced an EP so far, released late last year, but soon, they’ll have a music video on top of that. In fact, they’ll be filming that video in the Exchange. But while they’re doing that, they’ll also be putting on a big show with local metalheads Kelevra, Deadrot, and Oracles of Oppression.

Planet Eater play the Exchange on Saturday, January 17 with Kelevra, Deadrot, and Oracles of Oppression. Doors at 7 p.m. Show at 9 p.m. $10 at the door. All ages and licensed.
