40 Years of Art for Everyone

The Saskatchewan Cultural Exchange is getting ready to celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2017.

In 1977, a community of like-minded artists and art lovers established the Saskatchewan Cultural Exchange Society. In the four decades to follow, they managed venues showcasing all forms of creative expression, helped bring art education to schools in small and rural communities, and gave opportunities to Saskatchewan artists while increasing access to the arts across the province.

We’ve got a lot planned to celebrate the occasion. We’ll be using our site to share stories from the past 40 years from the people who made this organization what it is today. Our Exchange Presents and Emerging Artists concert series will be featuring a huge number of phenomenal artists from inside and outside of our province. Our Outreach program, connecting artists with communities for public programs, will be out in the province more than ever before, while our Workshop Tour will be looking forward to another strong year of bringing artists to schools in 2017.

And in addition to all that, we just might have a surprise to announce a little later in the year.

After 40 years, we still believe art is for everyone. If you hold that conviction, come out and celebrate with us in 2017.

MORE ABOUT THE WORKSHOP TOUR
Every fall, students get to learn directly from professional artists and experience artistic creation first hand.

The tour assembles a group of working artists, sending them out for full days of giving workshops in their fields. With the Workshop Tour, the Saskatchewan Cultural Exchange strives to nurture independent thinking, the imagination, respect for one another, and enthusiasm for life in students through balanced programs integrating multiple forms of artistic activity.

What does the school get? One Day –– Five Artists –– 20 Workshops

Workshops are specifically tailored for any age group from elementary to high school. The program has long been referenced by artists who have chosen their profession in part due to early interaction with the Workshop Tour. The tour continues with the goal of encouraging the next generation of independent and creative thinkers.

The Saskatchewan Cultural Exchange is excited to share the Workshop Tour with as many Saskatchewan communities as possible each fall.

Find out more on the Workshop Tour’s page.

The Caligari Project Photo Series

The Caligari Project is a unique, multi-disciplinary, city-wide public festival celebrating German Expressionism in its many forms. It encompasses visual art, film, music, dance, theatre, puppetry, and a speakers series that originally happened in Regina, Saskatchewan from September to December 2016.

The series of photos displayed in the Eight-Track Gallery shows some of the many artists, arts administrators, and organizers who came together to take part in the festival.

The exhibition is up now until late March 2017. Photo credit goes to Regina based photographer Eagleclaw Thom. To find out more about the Caligari Project, go to their website.

The Eight-Track Gallery is located in the Club at 2431 8th Avenue, Regina, SK. It is open for events or whenever the offices are open.

Coming Back from This Year’s Winterruption

For the second year in a row, the Regina Folk Festival has pulled off the break from your seasonal norm with Winterruption, a multi-venue festival bringing music and life to the darkest months.

In 2017, the Exchange was happy to partner with the RFF for events happening in our space. These included sets from Elliott Brood, Said the Whale, Connie Kaldor, and so many more. Thanks to the RFF and all their wonderful volunteers for making these shows a great experience for everyone involved and for bringing them to our venue.

Check out some samples of the Exchange action from this year’s Winterruption below, and look out for more from the RFF in the coming months!

Recently Announced: Royal Tusk

The Exchange is proud to present Royal Tusk in the Exchange on February 23 with the Pistolwhips.

The five bearded gentlemen in Royal Tusk are favourite sons of their hometown, Edmonton, AB. Since conquering the City of Champions, they’ve taken their blue-collar rock ‘n’ roll out across the country, winning new fans wherever they go. With a killer album, Dealbreaker, in tow, they’re sure to turn some heads when they return to the Exchange.

The Pistolwhips are no slouches, either. The Saskatoon group have been hard at work, honing their electric rock. They offered up a new taste of it with their latest single, “Voices.”

Doors at 8 p.m. Advance tickets are $10 and are available at Vintage Vinyl, Madame Yes, and online at Ticketfly. Tickets available at the door barring a sell-out.
