Wanted: Have an instrument that you’d be willing to donate to a good cause? Then we’re looking for you! We’re working on an ambitious project to bring music to a community 300 kilometres north of Prince Albert, SK. Will you help?
WHAT’S THE PROJECT? We’re sending musician Eliza Mary Doyle to Stanley Mission, SK to be an artist in residence for the month of January. She’ll be working with youth, teachers, and community members, tailoring her programming to meet the needs of the community.
Doyle is a singer-songwriter, guitarist, and banjo player, having played and toured for years as a solo artist as well as part of the Dead South. We think she will have a tremendous impact in the community.
When she’s done, Doyle won’t only be leaving behind a wealth of first-hand experience for the people of the community but also a full complement of instruments for them to continue to make music with.
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR? We’re looking to send up a variety of musical instruments for Doyle to teach with, and we’re asking you to help us out.
If you’ve got a stringed instrument that can be strummed or picked, harmonicas, or percussive instruments that you’d like to see go to a good cause, this is the one.
You can find a full list of the supplies we’re looking for here.
HOW CAN YOU HELP? We are reaching out to ask for whatever support you’d be able to give.
WANT TO KNOW MORE? Read the CBC’s recent article on the project!
Our annual report for our 2017-2018 year is posted now! You can right now to read it over at Issuu.
We got a very nice surprise in the mail the other day from the students of Punnichy Elementary. We were in the school in mid-October for the Workshop Tour, and it was a real pleasure to meet the next generation of budding artists.
You brightened our day, students! Thanks for the thank-you cards.
The Workshop Tour goes through Saskatchewan every fall, bringing a troupe of five artists to schools in small and rural communities. They do a full day of workshops with students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. Interested in knowing more? Email us.
Have a guitar you’d be willing to donate to a good cause? Then we’re looking for you!
In early 2019, the Saskatchewan Cultural Exchange will be sending guitarist, banjo player, and singer-songwriter Eliza Mary Doyle to Stanley Mission, SK for a residency. While there, she’ll be teaching youth and teachers how to play.
What do we need from you? We’re looking to send up a variety of musical instruments for Doyle to teach with, and we’re asking you to help us out.
If you’ve got a stringed instrument that can be strummed or picked, harmonicas, or percussive instruments that you’d like to see go to a good cause, this is the one. Get in touch with us at outreach@culturalexchange.ca or give us a call at (306) 780-9494.
