What is the Workshop Tour?

Every fall, students get to learn directly from professional artists and experience artistic creation firsthand.

The tour assembles a group of working artists, sending them out for full days of giving workshops in their fields. With the Workshop Tour, the Saskatchewan Cultural Exchange strives to nurture independent thinking, imagination, respect for one another, and enthusiasm for life in students through balanced programs integrating multiple forms of artistic activity.

Workshops are specifically tailored for any age group from elementary to high school. The program has long been referenced by artists who have chosen their profession in part due to early interaction with the Workshop Tour. The tour continues with the goal of encouraging the next generation of independent and creative thinkers.

The Saskatchewan Cultural Exchange is excited to share the Workshop Tour with as many Saskatchewan communities as possible each fall. If you’re part of a school interested in booking the Workshop Tour, an artist curious about participating in future tours or simply want more information on the program, please get in touch by emailing our Provincial Outreach Manager Carol Rose GoldenEagle at outreach@culturalexchange.ca

Bookings Open for the 2018 Workshop Tour

The Workshop Tour will be on the road this year from September 25 to November 2, beginning in northern Saskatchewan and work our way south over the course of the month.

Every fall, students get to learn directly from professional artists and experience artistic creation first hand. Each year, the workshops change as we have new artists to teach the students. We bring artists to schools who practice in each of the following disciplines:

DRAMA Theatre has the ability to transform thought and perception. Former workshop leaders have taught improvisation, clown, and character creation.

MUSIC We all have a basic understanding of where music fits into our everyday lives. Music workshops encourage thought, song creation, and exploring the world around us.

DANCE Put thought and emotion into action! Each year, students learn something new –– Métis jigging, hip-hop dance, or exploring basic movements to create their own dance.

VISUAL ARTS Everyone is creative and everyone can learn to create. Visual artists teach students how to draw comics, make prints, or build puppets.

WRITING Where do stories come from? How can we build something from nothing? Students have learned how to create new stories, write poetry, and employ styles.

Schools are asked to book the tour by June 1 or by May 1 for a special early booking discount. For more information, email Outreach Coordinator Rowan Pantel.

Keep an Eye Out for New Opportunities!

We here at the Saskatchewan Cultural Exchange are always updating our website with the latest opportunities, whether it’s new programs for people across the province to participate in, chances for communities to bring art to their area, or openings for artists to bring their work and experience to small and rural communities.

Are you curious about upcoming programs? Or are you a community or artist look to work with us in the future? Keep an eye on our Outreach page for the most up-to-date information or reach out directly to our Outreach Coordinator via email.
