Bookings Open for the 2018 Workshop Tour

The Workshop Tour will be on the road this year from September 25 to November 2, beginning in northern Saskatchewan and work our way south over the course of the month.

Every fall, students get to learn directly from professional artists and experience artistic creation first hand. Each year, the workshops change as we have new artists to teach the students. We bring artists to schools who practice in each of the following disciplines:

DRAMA Theatre has the ability to transform thought and perception. Former workshop leaders have taught improvisation, clown, and character creation.

MUSIC We all have a basic understanding of where music fits into our everyday lives. Music workshops encourage thought, song creation, and exploring the world around us.

DANCE Put thought and emotion into action! Each year, students learn something new –– Métis jigging, hip-hop dance, or exploring basic movements to create their own dance.

VISUAL ARTS Everyone is creative and everyone can learn to create. Visual artists teach students how to draw comics, make prints, or build puppets.

WRITING Where do stories come from? How can we build something from nothing? Students have learned how to create new stories, write poetry, and employ styles.

Schools are asked to book the tour by June 1 or by May 1 for a special early booking discount. For more information, email Outreach Coordinator Rowan Pantel.

Check out the short bio, it sums me up pretty well! As an instrumental guitarist I am looking to start gigging and doing shows. As of right now I have a 30-40min set available. Ceilidh’s Celebrated Once More

The Mid-Winter Ceilidh will be in the Exchange on Saturday, February 10. This year, the Ceilidh is extremely exited to present Scotland’s bagpipe virtuoso Fred Morrison in concert, along with east coast fiddle and piano legend Troy MacGillivray.

Morrison has been a household name in piping for many years, with concerts across the globe and genre-bending recordings and compositions that cut across Scottish, Irish, Cajun, bluegrass, and Appalachian folk. He’s a truly inspirational live performer. MacGillivray teaches and performs around the world and is well-known to Saskatchewan fiddlers.

Hosts the City of Regina Pipe Band will be performing, and there will be some other fun to complete the evening, including a silent auction. Both Morrison and MacGillivray have music workshops earlier in the day open to any interested. Check the Mid-Winter Celtic Festival’s website for more information.

Tickets for the Ceilidh are $30 and are available at Bach and Beyond, Magpie’s Kitchen, and at the Mid-Winter Celtic Festival’s website. Doors open at 7:30 p.m, with live music and dancing starting at 8 p.m.

The Exchange Heating Up in 2018

If this looks like it’s a lot, it’s because it is. After an intensely busy fall, the Exchange Presents series returns with four great upcoming concerts.

We’re set to be wowed when roots artist Terra Lightfoot comes to the Exchange on February 23. She’s a great songwriter with a tremendous voice that’s stood out on her new record, New Mistakes, as well when she opened for Whitehorse in Regina.

Having the Dears in the Exchange on March 17 is a dream on its own –– they’ve been a crucial, unique, and vital voice in Canadian indie-rock for well over a decade. Now, they’ve added Lou Canon onto the bill, a rising talent worthy of notice on her own.

If you need to extend your St. Patrick’s Day celebrations by a bit, then we’ve got a show for you. Celtic punk mainstays the Real McKenzies return to the Exchange on March 20 along with openers the Raygun Cowboys and Bats Out!

A fun-loving bunch of rockers needed a special partner. So, Rebellion Brewing Co. is joining us to present the Supersuckers in the Exchange on May 18 in what’s sure to be a wall-to-wall blowout of a good time.

Tickets for all of these can be found at Vintage Vinyl, Madame Yes, and online at Ticketfly. (Since Rebellion’s joined up with us for the Supersuckers, they’ve got tickets to sell for that one, too.)

There are even more great shows coming up at the Exchange beyond our concert series, featuring artists like Reverend Horton Heat, Soulfly as Nailbomb, and Harry Manx. Check our site event listings for all the announced shows.
