Recently Announced: Great Lake Swimmers

We’re very happy to tell you that the Regina Folk Festival Concert Series is presenting Great Lake Swimmers in the Exchange on Tuesday, May 26 with the Weather Station. Tickets are on sale right now online over at TicketBreak.

Great Lake Swimmers’ latest, A Forest of Arms, is coming out in April 2015 and, from what’s been released so far, continues the great progression they’ve made over the course of six albums. The Tony Dekker-led band keeps with a folk tradition both beautiful and rocking, mixing themes both personal and pulled from the natural world.

The inclusion of the Weather Station, Tamara Lindeman’s wonderful project, ensures this’ll be a great night.

While you’re thinking about the Regina Folk Festival, why not have a look at their 2015 lineup? On August 7, 8, and 9, they’ll be bringing incredible artists like Sinead O’Connor, Vance Joy, Blue Rodeo, the Sheepdogs, and Jenny Lewis to Victoria Park. Go to the RFF’s website to see more artists who’ll be playing.

Hell Hounds

About Hell Hounds

Hell Hounds are a Symphonic Power Metal band from Regina, SK, Canada. Founded in early 2013 by Ryan, Joseph and Emma, the current line up was finished with Viviana, joining in July 2013, and Justy, joining in September 2013.
Only two months after finding a drummer, Hell Hounds played their debut show at the Club as part of the Five Bands for Five Bucks show organised by Carson Aaron.

The band’s music has since then become more melodic and powerful and has been adding more symphonic elements.
Since the debut show, Hell Hounds have been playing shows in and out of town – the biggest coup so far has been their opening shows for Saskatoon theatrical punk-rock troupe The New Jacobin Club.
Hell Hounds are influenced by various styles, out of which power, symphonic and death metal certainly are the strongest ones.

Not Much Time Left to Get In on Queen City Rocks

So far, three bands have already advanced to the finals: the League of One, Mother Night, and Braindead Romeo. That leaves just two more weeks of competition before we move on to the finale of Queen City Rocks, 104.9 The Wolf’s annual battle of the bands in the Exchange.

As this is being written, we’re waiting to see who will win the Thursday, March 12 edition, whether it be Bad Comrade, Johnny Hatch and the Lost Disciples, Iron Bison, Legends, or Majetik. On Thursday, March 19, we’ll see performances from Almost Alien, Hello, Lady, Newera, Slough Sharks, and Son Howler. After a week rest, all the finalists will return to find out who wins the grand prize.

Every night is just $10 at the door. For more information, go to the Wolf’s website.

The Electric Revival Are Bringing Rock Energy to the Club

You may have seen this before: three scruffy dudes who, if they aren’t currently clad in leather look like they were in the recent past. They take the stage, taking up guitar, bass, and drums, and proceed to play a rock show.

If the scene’s familiar by now, it might be because it can still strike a chord with audiences. Calgary, AB’s the Electric Revival know that chord well. They take in disparate influences –– rock, blues, punk –– and give it energy, make it personal, and keep it fun.

They’ve kept busy in their hometown for years now, releasing their debut full-length, Presenting: the Electric Revival, back in 2012. After a few more records, they spent three weeks in the studio making Freaks, their new album that came out earlier in 2015.

The Electric Revival play the Club on Friday, March 13 with Whiskey Manner and Johnny 2 Finger and the Deformities. Doors at 8 p.m. $10 at the door. All ages and licensed.
