FALL WORKSHOP TOUR ANNOUNCED – Registration Open!

Registration is now open for our Fall Arts Workshop Tour!

What is the Workshop Tour?

Every fall, students get to learn directly from professional artists and experience artistic creation first hand.

The tour assembles a group of working artists, sending them out for full days of giving workshops in their fields. With the Workshop Tour, the Saskatchewan Cultural Exchange strives to nurture independent thinking, the imagination, respect for one another, and enthusiasm for life in students through balanced programs integrating multiple forms of artistic activity.

Workshops are specifically tailored for any age group from elementary to high school. The program has long been referenced by artists who have chosen their profession in part due to early interaction with the Workshop Tour. The tour continues with the goal of encouraging the next generation of independent and creative thinkers.

The Saskatchewan Cultural Exchange is excited to share the Workshop Tour with as many Saskatchewan communities as possible each fall. If you’re part of a school interested in booking the Workshop Tour, an artist curious about participating in future tours, or simply want more information on the program, please get in touch by emailing our Provincial Outreach Manager Rowan Pantel at outreach@culturalexchange.ca.

Book by June 1st  Email outreach@culturalexchange.ca or phone (306) 780-9494 for more information.

Instruments Needed for Stanley Mission Project

Have a guitar you’d be willing to donate to a good cause? Then we’re looking for you!

In early 2019, the Saskatchewan Cultural Exchange will be sending guitarist, banjo player, and singer-songwriter Eliza Mary Doyle to Stanley Mission, SK for a residency. While there, she’ll be teaching youth and teachers how to play.

What do we need from you? We’re looking to send up a variety of musical instruments for Doyle to teach with, and we’re asking you to help us out.

If you’ve got a stringed instrument that can be strummed or picked, harmonicas, or percussive instruments that you’d like to see go to a good cause, this is the one. Get in touch with us at outreach@culturalexchange.ca or give us a call at (306) 780-9494.

You can find a full list of the supplies we’re looking for here.

“As a young teenager, Zoey Roy left home and lived on the streets. She was angry and defiant. She was full of emotions she didn’t know how to express. But this was also the period of time that led her to hip hop, which she discovered could work as a release and which became instrumental to her career as a poet and activist.” Adrian Halter, CBC News

Special thanks to presenting sponsor Paved Arts. The Saskatchewan Cultural Exchange Artist in Residence Series is possible with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, the Saskatchewan Arts Board, and SaskCulture.

Community Arts at Athabasca Health Authority

The Athabasca Health Authority invites members of the community to contribute to two collaborative artwork projects developed and hosted by visiting community artist Laura Hale. Laura is working with Stony Rapids and Black Lake until the end of June and then in Fond du Lac until the end of July as part of the Saskatchewan Cultural Exchange’s Artists in Communities programs.

All projects are held in the Multipurpose Room at the AHA facility.

Make Your Mark Beading Project
Thursdays (June 8, 15, and 22) from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Laura has brought a deer hide up with her in hopes of getting as many people as possible to bear a simple mark or design on it before she returns home. She will find a special place to display this collaborative artwork when she heads back down south. No beading experience necessary –– just come, contribute, and make your mark.

Greetings from the North Postcard Project
Saturdays (June 10, 17, and 24) from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
On one side of the postcard, share a story that you would like our friends int he south to know about the north, or about your community, yourself, or your culture. On the other side, draw, colour, and customize your postcard. Laura will mail out all postcards randomly to people in the south.

Support provided by the Saskatchewan Arts Board and SaskCulture. The Athabasca Health Authority provides health services to the five main communities in northern Saskatchewan.
