What Have You Done with the SCES?
/in News /by AdminHere at the Saskatchewan Cultural Exchange, we’re under a month away from our 40th anniversary, which we’ll be celebrating all through 2017. We’re looking forward to all the great programing coming from Outreach, the Exchange, and all parts of the organization, while also reflecting on our history.
To that end, we’re looking to hear from you! Have you been involved with the Saskatchewan Cultural Exchange in the past? Have a story to tell? We want to hear from you! Send us an email today.
The Philosopher Kings and More Recently Announced
/in News /by AdminRight now in the Exchange, we’re winding down 2016. There’s a full month of exciting shows going on all through December, with some new and returning events. Already, though, we’re looking forward to what we’ve got planned for 2017.
In the past week, we announced three new shows in our Exchange Presents concert series. First up is Julie and the Wrong Guys in the Club on February 1. Julie Doiron’s been touring and recording as a solo artist and as part of groups like Eric’s Trip for over 20 years. This latest group features members of Cancer Bats and Eamon McGrath.
Another group who have spent decades playing music in Canada is the Philosopher Kings in the Exchange on March 1. With hits like “Cry” and “Hurts to Love You”, the band’s made their mark blending soul, R&B, and pop to the delight of audiences across the nation.
A different kind of cultural flavor is coming with the Real McKenzies in the Exchange on March 22. The Canadian group led the way for Celtic punk when they formed in 1992 and haven’t stopped bringing bagpipes to the pit ever since.
For more information on these and other shows coming up in the Exchange and the Club, check out the Events section of our website.
Get Your Dead South Tickets Now
/in News /by AdminWe knew Regina audiences would want as much of the Dead South as they could get. Since the Queen City quartet first started performing, they’ve attracted audiences with their storytelling, their style, and their foot-stomping live show.
Originally, the Exchange and 104.9 The Wolf had them in the Exchange for two nights to celebrate the release of their new album, Illusion and Doubt. Openers like Kevin Roy, Wolf Willow, Étienne Fletcher, and Snake River sweetened the deal.
Now, December 15 and 16 have both sold out. So, to give audiences one more chance, we’ve added another date on December 14. Joining them that night will be the Windows Up Above and Del Suelo, a pair of great Regina acts we’re excited to bring back to the Exchange.
There are still tickets in stores at Vintage Vinyl and Madame Yes for December 14 as we write this, but they are sold out online. If you missed out on the other two shows, you won’t want to sleep on this one –– tickets are already selling quickly. Don’t wait!
Catch Up with the SK Cultural Exchange This Holiday Season
/in News /by AdminThe Saskatchewan Cultural Exchange invites you to our holiday wine-and-cheese come-and-go. We’re almost two weeks from the new year, so before the calendar flips over, come out for a few free drinks and some refreshments. Join the staff of the Saskatchewan Cultural Exchange for some mid-week merriment, complete with beverages and food. The event runs from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Wintersleep’s Sold-Out Show
/in News /by AdminOn November 25, we hosted Wintersleep in the Exchange. If you wanted to go, with any luck you bought your tickets in advance, because the show sold out before the doors even opened.
Thanks to Regina’s rock station, 104.9 the Wolf, for supporting the show, Wintersleep and openers Fake Palms for playing a great concert, and everyone who came out. It was a memorable night and we’re already looking forward to the next time these bands come to town.
We’ve got plenty more great music coming to the Exchange, including Diemonds and Pigeon Park on December 10 and the Dead South on December 15 and 16. For more information on these and other upcoming shows, keep an eye on the Events page on our site and our online ticket page at Ticketfly.

Read Up on Our 2015/2016 Year
/in News /by AdminEarlier this fall, we here at the Saskatchewan Cultural Exchange wrapped up another year in our decades-long history. On November 19, we held our Annual General Meeting in the Club, filling members in what we’ve been up between September 2015 and August 2016.
This year, our building had its bricks repointed. We’re not sure when this last took place –– our headquarters in Regina’s Warehouse District has a history beyond our 25 years in this space, with the building taking on new life with every tenant.
This has us thinking about what we’ve accomplished in 2015/2016. The Saskatchewan Cultural Exchange has a long history in our province –– we’ll be celebrating our 40th anniversary next year –– but there’s always room for refinement, for refurbishment.
That’s exactly what we’ve accomplished in the past 12 months. Our Outreach program continues to grow, finding new opportunities across the province. The Workshop Tour continues to bring artists to schools in small and rural communities. And the Exchange is still an all-ages art hub in Regina. We’re building some new things while refining others. You can read our full annual report to find out what we’ve been up to. Find it over here.
Thank you to our supporters
