Altars of Grief

About Altars of Grief

Hailing from Regina, SK, Altars of Grief were conceived in the frigid winter months of 2013. The band draws from an eclectic musical background, weaving soaring choral arrangements with powerful, driving death metal and morose gothic doom with frantic, uptempo black metal passages. In 2014, the band released its debut album, This Shameful Burden, followed by a tour of central Canada in its support. Ever since, the band has been building its audience through fiercely passionate live performance, sharing the stage with the likes of Fuck the Facts, Insomnium, and Dark Tranquillity. In 2015, Altars of Grief is set to release it’s newest offering –– a vinyl split with Canadian blackened doom metal outfit Nachtterror, which will feature a far more diverse and melodic sound than ever before.

Bats Won’t Stop Napalm Death

Napalm Death have been covered in the press for plenty of reasons but, most recently, people took notice for an unlikely interruption. A show in Massachusetts had an impromptu break because of a bat interrupting their set.

The group took it in stride, “spontaneously [breaking] into the riff from Black Sabbath’s self-titled 1970 single,” writes Metal Hammer, before continuing their concert.

Rest assured, we’re checking the Exchange for any spots where a furry, flying friend might sneak in. There should be nothing to distract you from this monumental metal act, whose over 30-year history and 16 albums stands as one of the great bodies of work for a grindcore and death metal band.

Napalm Death are in the Exchange on Friday, February 13 with Voivod, Exhumed, and Iron Reagan. Doors at 7:30 p.m. Advance tickets are $30 and are available at Vintage Vinyl, Madame Yes, and online at TicketEdge. All ages and licensed.

Not done with metal for the weekend after the Valentine’s Day Massacre? The mayhem continues with the Valentine’s Day Massacre Aftermath in the Exchange on Saturday, February 14 with Nachtterror, Psyborum, and Altars of Grief. Go to the Facebook event to learn more.
